Barry Bannan was left rueing missed opportunities as Wanderers were held to a draw at home to Charlton on Tuesday evening.
The midfielder provided the assist for Bolton’s equalising goal eleven minutes from time, feeding Adam Le Fondre for the striker to fire home his seventh goal for the club since joining on loan from Cardiff in January.
And speaking to bwfc.co.uk following the final whistle at Macron Stadium, fellow loanee Bannan admitted his disappointment at leaving the clash with just a solitary point to show for the team’s efforts.
“It was a hard earned point, but it hindsight we felt like we dominated the game more or less from start to finish," he explained. “We had a lot of chances to put the game beyond doubt but we weren’t able to do it, so we’re disappointed at the final result.
“I can’t think of too many chances that Charlton had to score again in the game after their goal, whereas we had plenty but just couldn’t put it in the net.
“Even though we got a point, we’re still disappointed because we wanted all three and I think we should have taken them.”
He continued: “With our goal, I played a quick one-two with Emile and initially tried to slip Alfie in first time, but the defender read it.
“Even though he intercepted it, I just kept on trying and I eventually found him for him to get another great finish under his belt – we know that he can do that for us if we provide him with the service.”
Making his 14th appearance for the Whites when turning out against the Addicks on Tuesday evening, the Scotland international has figured prominently for the Trotters in recent months with Bannan himself thoroughly enjoying his spell at Macron Stadium.
“It’s great to be playing week-in week-out,” he said. “That is ultimately what I came here for, and the gaffer has shown great faith in me every game so I’m really enjoying my football at the minute.
“Obviously I’d like the results to be a bit better, but I’m trying my best to get the results for the team and I’m really enjoying it here.”
With just three games of the campaign remaining, the 25-year-old called for the team to put their disappointment behind them immediately, starting with Saturday’s trip to the capital to face play-off hopefuls Brentford at Griffin Park.
“We’ve got some great games coming up against teams that are still really playing for something, so that will give us a good opportunity to test ourselves against them and also see how good they are.
"We know that they’ll be tough matches, but we’ll be going into those games with nothing but three points on our mind and we know we’re capable of getting them.
“The season isn’t finished yet though – we want to finish as high up the table as possible and with as many points as we can.
“We know that we’ve got enough in that changing room to match any team on our day – everybody saw against Norwich last weekend what we’re capable of when it comes to the top teams, so we’ll go to Brentford and Bournemouth in good spirits and look forward to the challenge that they will give us.”
