Mark Warburton won’t be in the dole queue for long when he leaves Brentford at the end of this season.
That’s the view of Neil Lennon, who like many in football is surprised his opposite number will be released by Bees whether they succeed in their play-off chase or not.
“It looks like they are going to change Mark, which is a surprise to everyone,” he told The Bolton News.
“They have their own way of doing things and it’s not for me to comment on but the manager himself has done terrifically well. If he’s out of work in the summer he won’t be out of work for long.
“There will be no compensation, his record is good over the last two seasons, and he’s taken to management very, very well.”
Un-fancied at the start of the campaign, Brentford slipped out of the top six with defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in midweek but have impressed Lennon with the style of football they have played this season.
The Whites boss aims to fight fire with fire at Griffin Park, vowing to name an attacking line up this afternoon.
“I think they’ve been superb,” he said. “At one stage you thought they’d drift away but they haven’t, in fact they’ve got stronger.
“They play a very exciting brand of football. I watched them at Derby last week and they were the better side by far. They should have won that game.
“They have been a real success story.
“We’ll have to be at our best to get anything out of the game at all, but I don’t think we’ve been far away recently, even though results haven’t always shown it.
“We’ve played some decent attacking football and perhaps not finished off our chances or played that final ball when we should. But I’m far from disappointed with how we’re playing, put it that way.”
That Warburton’s departure was announced midway through the current season makes the Bees’ league position all the more impressive, Lennon added.
“I think he’s got the bit between his teeth, Mark, and will certainly want to bed down one of those play-off positions. After that it’s a lottery – it’s whoever hits the form over the course of three games and the prize at the end of it is unbelievable.”
