The dirty bastard has finally popped his clogs in Libya. They can't bury him for the foreseeable future because the bin men are on strike over there.

I have a very limited knowledge of this case but what i've heard from others is that the case against him was very flimsy.

Will someone ban this wanker, now he's defending convicted terrorists.

I have to agree with Natasha. Once someone is convicted of a crime in a court of law by a jury of their peers, they should rightly be considered guilty. Hipster, are you some sort of extreme left wing patsy?

I think you may have to read my post again.
i didn't once say how i felt about it, i actually said i had a very limited knowledge (i.e none) but was repeating something i'd heard from friends hoping to open up debate.
clearly people skipped over that and went straight to the abuse.

The evidence against him was pretty solid but the main conspirators were never caught. As well as the terrible tragedy of the victims on the plane it also meant thousands of AIDS sufferers died prematurely.
The only reason we allowed him to go back to Libya was oil.

That moon landing in 1969 was a breakthrough in the endeavours of mankind, but what I've heard from others is it was all a fake and actually took place on a sound stage in Arizona.
But don't infer from that statement that I have an opinion on the subject, I'm just posting something for the sake of it.

I know next to nothing about it, it was before my time quite frankly the reason i posted in the thread was every time it's come up in conversation socially i've known what i've stated above to be said.
i won't post again in threads unless i have a steadfast opinion on the matter.
I'm very sorry.

Was the evidence that convincing? I don't think so. Iran is far more likely to be responsible for this atrocity. They wanted revenge for the stupid Americans shooting down a passenger airliner (Iran Air Flight 655) with a loss of 290 lives. The Americans paid $61.8m in compensation.
If you are seriously interested in looking at the evidence there is a lot of information in back issues of Private Eye.

Iran had fcuk all to do with it. They were still under the radar looking for nuclear physicists. The trail for the Lockerbie bombers led to Libya and nowhere else.

Been listening to the radio tonight and it certainly seems to me that you are doing Hipster (and to a lesser extent xmiles) a complete disservice.
From what was said there are clearly a great many, well respected legal opinions that a miscarriage of justice may have been done and the verdict is 'unsafe'.
One authority was some well respected professor from Edinburgh University (I think I'm right in saying) who was one of the people that wrote the protocol allowing Scottish law to be undertaken in another country - The Netherlands.
Think Hipster had no reason at all to apologise - indeed the boot may very well need to be put on the other foot!
The head of the American families who were killed at Lockerbie believes as xmiles was saying that the hand behind it all was Iran - but he did come across on the radio as a Mr Angry about everything and everyone!

I don't think Hipster, myself, or Natasha should apologise for anything.
Clearly Hipster's apology was sarcastic.
Clearly my forgiving Hipster for his sarcastic apology was sarcastic.
Clearly Natasha's acceptance of his sarcastic apology was sarcastic.
My asking Hipster if he is an extreme left-wing patsy was sarcastic too.
I don't actually know much about this case either as it happens, other than the shenanigans which surrounded the guy's release a few years ago. I was 11 years old when the Lockerbie bombing took place, and didn't follow the trial at the time. I was just having a bit of fun with Hipster.

All I ask is that you look at the evidence. Any unbiased review will show that there is good reason to consider the verdict unsafe. Try the Wikipedia article for instance.

I know the case reasonably well because I watched a documentary on it. The paper trail led to Libya and no doubt Gaddafi was complicit in the terrible events that unfolded.
Didn't al-Megrahi plead guilty at his trial ? I know he was a patsy in the plot but he was still in it up to his waders.

Honestly i thought Largehat was serious, generally because he comes across as well read and with these type of stories some people can get quite emotionally involved with them.
obviously i don't take a single word "natasha" says seriously.

RT, paper trails lead where Governments like the United States (and therefore the UK) want them to lead. Megrahi always pleaded that he was innocent, even after he was back in Libya and terminally ill. Anyway, all's well that ends well. We got the Oil in the end.
