The reason i am thinking about this is when i was a kid i was always out and about somewhere.  at the top end of harwood where i lived there was a lot of hills and farms and even a quarry that we used to go and "explore"

We'd also go river walking down longsight park and we where always playing football either in the street or walking to various pitches.

All of this was without adult supervision.

Me and a mate even built a go kart once.  rickety as hell and dangerous as fook but we built it.

It's a shame because most of the dangers that are around now where probably still around back then, but with the internet and news being a lot more in your face these days the horrors stories you hear come thick and fast.

Which means of course you have to be a lot more cautious with your own kids (and grandkids) and they won't get to experience half of what we did as children.

Whats your memories and things that your kids/grandkids probably won't get to experience unless you do it with them?

as a kid we used to roam all over the place, Moss Bank Park, Barrow Bridge (the ciggie tunnel especially) Shepherd Cross St fields, Tootles Park on Halliwell Road to name a few. I must have only been still at Primary school as well which these days would be unheard of.

We used to go and piss about in the EBM builders yard up Chorley old road all the time, just over the road from morrisons.

I'm still living my childhood.
The thing I loved best was the freedom. We left the house at around 8am with a ball, and a few bottles of water, and as much loose change as we could muster, and that was the last our parents saw of us until around 9pm.
We'd sometimes buy some bamboo from the local hardware and make a very authentic bow and arrow set. Deadly. Health and safety would murder us now.
We also armed ourselves with pellet guns, gats, catapults and penknives. We could have taken on the Taliban, and won.
Six of us once took Rivington Pike from the Japs in less than an hour. We awarded ourselves a Vimto Jubbly in celebration.
How times have changed.(I suppose even the term 'Japs' is an offence now).
