WANDERERS legend Kevin Davies has been dumped by Preston North End – just a week after being assured his future lay at Deepdale.

The former England international is now searching for a new club after helping the Lillywhites into the Championship via the play-offs last season.

Davies made 43 appearances in all competitions last season, albeit many of them were as an impact substitute. But his contribution had been sufficient for Simon Grayson to discuss another 12-month deal.

“We are in discussions with Kevin Davies about a role at the football club in terms of playing and possibly a coaching capacity,” said the Preston boss at the end of May.

It is understood the offer was still on the table last week – but Davies is now on the lookout for a seventh professional club, with a month remaining before the start of the Football League campaign.

The striker, who made more than 400 appearances for Wanderers, has been working towards his badges and has previously expressed interest in moving into coaching and football administration after finishing his playing career.

Davies was due a testimonial with the Whites but postponed the fixture by 12 months after deciding to continue his playing career.

We seem to be very open these days to signing players in their late 30's.
Stranger things have happened.
It'd be interesting to see just how crap a deal he'd settle for to come back.

He could possibly go to America. I think he was actually approached about that around three years or so ago and turned it down because he was happy here at the time but with no club right now he might just be able to bag a season or two in the MLS. Whatever happens I wish Kevin all the best, he did a great job for us and I hope we see him back here in a coaching role one day if he doesn't re-sign as a player now.
