Both current Bolton Wanderers players out on loan marked the start of the new Football League season with a goal as their respective side endured mixed fortunes on the opening day.
Rob Hall marked his third MK Dons debut with an early goal as Karl Robinson’s side recorded a 4-1 victory away at Rotherham United to storm to the top of the Sky Bet Championship table.
Taking part in their first ever game in the English second-tier, the winger opened the scoring for Dons inside the opening five minutes from close-range.
Matt Derbyshire equalised for the Millers soon after, but a Danny Collins own goal but MK Dons back ahead, before further strikes Dean Bowditch and Carl Baker secured the win.
Meanwhile in League One, fellow Wanderers loanee Conor Wilkinson also netted a debut strike as Barnsley fell to a 3-1 defeat away at Chesterfield.
The forward fired home from inside the area to put Barnsley ahead inside the opening five minutes.
However, Chesterfield fought back in the second half courtesy of goals from Jay O’Shea, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Sam Morsy.
