Time to step back ? NL came in steadied the ship kept us up Job done.

He then tackled the high wage earners got shut of most of them and reduced the wage bill - Job done

Yeah But we have no money or squad ? With no cash he scours the Market brings in Wilson, Prince and Osede and the two full backs yet to play. our defence looks solid we concede little and we have two players for every position. Build from the back - Job done

Yeah but we need a scapegoat step up Moxey !! shit he's now playing well it's Feeney's fault we need a winger NL brings in Silva - job done.

Yeah but our strikers are shit !! well that may take cash and most teams in our league are looking for a striker, last year he pulls ALF out of the hat. JOB NOT YET DONE

So lets enjoy the progress, recognise our cash limitations and be thankful that Lennon despite all the problems at the club stayed loyal. My bet is he will bring in a striker and when he does it will be even better.

I agree wessy

Like i have just posted in match thread. We need a striker

i know a striker wont score every game but look at all our results barring the middlesborough one and one goal in each of those games would have got us 1 or sometimes 2 points.  The defence is solid.  Amos has made me forget bogdan and lonergan already.  (Although lonners pulled off a top save at weekend.......where as bogdan looks settled and his arse imprint is nicely settling on the liverpool bench)  with a goalacorer we could of got an extra 9 points with an extra goal in each game.  That would put us 2nd two points clear of boro in 3rd.  Its not that much of a stretch of the imagination

Our inability to score has been common knowledge for a few seasons now. If Lennon honestly thought Madine and Heskey were going to fire us to safety he was sadly mistaken and deserves to be abused.

Finding a striker for a minimal fee takes time and effort, and a lot of knowledge. Not convinced Lennon has a clue about stuff like that, too used to using Celtic's millions to buy English rejects.

If he doesn't pull a striker out of the bag soon it will be LENNON OUT in my penthouse window.

NL has done a magnificent job so far, pretty sure we'd have gone down under DF.

My worry is that we will be back to square one once the loanees go back. We can't afford to buy silva and prince

Can anybody honestly say they've seen a number of Lennon's selections/substitutions and thought "what the fuck is this guy doing?"
Things haven't always been rosy under Lennon - we're hardly a miles better side than we were 12 months ago - but I can understand where the guy's coming from virtually all of the time in terms of his tactics, signings and the things he says.
I think even Whittam's struggling to put together an argument to call him a dick. Megson, Freedman and Coyle didn't exactly make it difficult for her.

It's looking as if Lennon's managed to sort out the defence, considering how many years it's been utter shit for he deserves a lot of credit for that. Not sure if it's his recruitment, coaching or both but now we have specialist full backs and the Prince I feel far more confident about it. He's done an excellent job there.

The striker issue is obvious, but it's the most difficult position to recruit for on the pitch IMO so if he's taking his time to make sure we spend our little resources on the right man then he's doing the right thing.

As Wessy says, it's a work in progress and when you're a struggling side the most important thing is to stop conceding, he's done that now he needs to sort out the goals.

He's doing fine. Certainly as well as can be expected.

The main difference between this season and the last few is having a defence we can finally have some confidence in and that's a great job done. Unfortunately it was done by Mjallby who has now left so hopefully the quality can be maintained.

That said, we won't progress and may well flirt with relegation unless we have a genuine goal threat. Difficult to blame Lennon for not providing one (although Nat has managed to do just that) and I personally would have taken a different approach but under the circumstances it has to be said that overall he's doing OK.

I do have a couple of concerns about Neil though and I think it's fair to voice them on a forum as it interests me what others think.

For example:

Selling Andy Kellett seems weird unless Neil is convinced he'll never make it, but this looks like short term cashflow job rather than clever business strategy and future proofing.
Recruiting aging players like Heskey and Dobbie doesn't seem to do anything for our longer term security - it would if they were delivering the goods now to get us through a sticky patch but they're not which makes it seem like a waste of resources that could be better spent elsewhere. The loanees don't do anything for the longer term either but at least they're playing well and justifying their selection by and large.

And Neil comes across as dogmatic in his selection and playing style, regardless of the results and performances - a trait that was Dougie's downfall.

But as it stands, we're only one talented striker or one system change from being good enough to climb the table - and at the same time only a couple of injuries to key players away from relegation fodder. It could go either way but given our terrible luck over the last few years I'd like to see a bit more security.

So far we haven't had any real disasters from Neil so he gets my qualified support, but things can change very quickly.

Correct you are .....however even with a decent striker quality will tell over a season. We don't have much of that for well documented reasons. So a decent striker could make us a mid-table safety team.... that's about it for this year.
