Liam Trotter’s loan move to Nottingham Forest has hit a bump in the road.
Dougie Freedman revealed yesterday that the club is battling to get the move ratified by the Football League in time to face Bristol City tomorrow.
Financial Fair Play rules mean extra paperwork is necessary to get the deal rubber-stamped, under the strict terms of Forest’s transfer embargo.
And despite Neil Lennon describing the deal as done at his weekly press conference yesterday, the 27-year-old midfielder could be left in limbo for another weekend if the forms are not with the right people by lunchtime today.
“Unfortunately, because of the embargo situation, there are one or two technical things we need to work through,” Freedman said.
“In normal circumstances a 28-day loan is one of the simplest things to arrange.
“But we are working very hard with the admin people at the club to get it over the line.
“It is close, it is tight and we will work as hard as we can.”
Forest have suffered similar problems before with four loan deals completed on transfer deadline day also taking more than a week to be ratified.
Wanderers still expect the deal to be completed, even if it drags on until after the weekend and it is understood they would be open to it being extended towards Christmas if Trotter makes an impact in the short term.
Lennon is hoping to put the funds towards new signings, with a striker still high on his list of priorities.
“Hopefully Liam going there will free up some wages for a month or so,” he said. “We felt that it was right for Liam to go and right for us as he wasn't really featuring.
“Hopefully we can do something with that money as well.”
