I seem to remember we had a thread on here a few years ago when HMV went bust.

I didn't personally care much at the time. I spent basically all of my birthday/christmas money in there as a child and occasionally they came up with a great deal, but Amazon was always better.

Anyway, it turns out they're back in the game. They actually have a few shops going now, one of which (Bury) I had a look in today and ended up spending a fortune.

There's something about buying music and films from a shop like HMV that you don't get from buying off Amazon, Ebay etc. It's too easy to get what you want when you can just type it in and get it delivered to your front door. Half the fun is actually going into a shop like HMV and buying off an actual shelf. I really hope they give us our HMV back. Do you, or are you not really bothered?

I see buying films as a waste of money to be honest, it's all too readily available on torrents.

I'd buy vinyl in HMV but last time I went in there (admittedly years ago) the prices were extortionate, I tend to buy second hand anyway now. If they introduced a second hand music section I'd go check that out.

Never really bought from HMV, they've always been robbing bastards and I laughed when they went bust.

When I was a teenager I used to love coming to Bolton to visit X-Records. What a place that was. You could spend hours searching through the CDs and you almost always found a rare gem or two. I remember they had a huge hip-hop section, better than anything in Manchester.

Does X-Records still exist?

Never liked HMV. Discland in Walkden was my Saturday morning haunt.

HMV have,in fact, made a comeback in Warrington, returning to the same outlet they had before going bust.
Far too expensive though.

I'm sure it was open last time I was in Bolton town centre, about 5 month a go.

Yes. CDs start at about £11.99. The sort of CD's you could find in a big basket at Morrisons for 99p each that is. God knows how they're still in business unless they've upped their game since I last went in.

The original HMV went bust but that company was bought by a Canadian franchise company that had HMV franchises in Canada!!  They closed many stores, including Bolton but they also kept quite a few open, such as Bury.  In Manchester the stores on Market Street (the big one near Lewis'/Primark and the small one which is now a Manchester City store) closed long before it went bust and they moved into the old Virgin Megastore that was in the Arndale, but now they have 2 floors on the upper level near Next!
