Neil Lennon has finally been dealt some good news in the transfer market with the confirmation that Wolves winger Rajiv van la Parra is on his way.
The Dutchman will link-up with Wanderers early next week after recovering from a slight knee problem.
Lennon hoped to have Van la Parra on board last weekend but Kenny Jackett put the brakes on his departure as the club assessed his injury.
The Whites boss has endured a frustrating time in the transfer market of late and looks like missing out on another target, Liverpool’s Joao Teixeira, who is unsure about swapping Anfield for a Championship relegation scrap.
But Van la Parra’s arrival will provide some much-needed pace to the Wanderers midfield, with Lennon admitting his side have been short for some time.
“It’s a priority high priority we get someone in,” he said. “We’ve got Wellington Silva out long-term, Zach Clough out long-term.
“In terms of creativity we’re a bit short in the final third.
“We are looking to bring another player in and I think it’s imperative that we do. We need that boost.”
Former Heerenveen wide man Van la Parra was a regular under Jackett last season, making 40 appearances and claiming eight assists.
He slipped down the pecking order at Molineux of late because of the form of James Henry and was poised to sign for Leeds United on transfer deadline day before the Yorkshiremen pulled out of the deal at the last moment.
Wolves also brought in a replacement in Nathan Byrne, providing yet more competition on the right side of the attack.
However, Lennon’s chances of landing Liverpool’s Joao Teixeira look slim.
The Portuguese youngster has a handful of Championship clubs interested in his signature and is understood to have reservations about plunging himself into a relegation battle at the Macron Stadium.
“There are a lot of difficulties bringing players here,” Lennon told The Bolton News. “Maybe they don’t want to come here knowing we’re in a fight to stay up, and of course finances dictate whether you sign someone as well and that hasn’t been easy.”
Concerns over Gary Madine and Stephen Dobbie – both of whom were substituted in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Bristol City – look to have eased.
Both front men have responded well to treatment in the last few days and are not considered to be a long-term concern.
