The Fat, Old & Very Young Should Panic Now

The world is on the cusp of a "post-antibiotic era", scientists have warned after finding bacteria resistant to all drugs.

Unless something significant changes, doctors could face increasing numbers of patients for whom they will need to say, "Sorry, there is nothing I can do to cure your infection."

Forget Islamic State, North Korea and BWFC's wrist slashing inducing football, this bacteria is now the number one threat to human existence.

Fatties, the old and the very young will be the first to go, even super fit people like myself may eventually be taken.

everyone needs to stop going to their Doctors at the first sign of a sniffle and just ride it out with fluids and painkillers. This is the single biggest reason there is so many antibiotic resistant viruses out there.

Agree with Mr Pig but the drug companies and GP's are equally to blame.

Drug companies make billions out of marketing their products and they happily hand a slice of that pie onto unscrupulous GP's if they are prepared to prescribe them.

No names, no pack drill, but I know of a GP in Bolton (who's dead now) who supplemented his NHS salary by continually conducting patient trials from his surgery office and prescribing certain medications (including antibiotics) by the bucket full.

He spent half his time seeing routine patients and the other half doing trials and it made him a millionaire.

My  GP in Walkden used to get very frustrated with the drug companies. He once showed me a stack of letters,at least 3ft  tall,each one of which was trying to get him to push one drug or the other.
To his credit,I don't think he ever caved in to it.
The poor chap was an alcoholic with ten kids,so he really didn't need the extra pressure.
