We all have them. Relatives we don't see from one year to the next.
Then, along comes Christmas, and they all start crawling out of the woodwork.
That's fine,I can put up with it for the sake of a peaceful life, but what I always find tricky is,how much I should spend on their Christmas gift?
Do I just stick a pair of socks in a festive bag? Or perhaps a pair of novelty underpants?
A silk scarf for the ladies perhaps?
I don't want to look like a meanie, but I never see these buggers from one year to the next,so why should I spend a fortune on them?
I once gave a cousin I hadn't seen for around 18 months a pack of thermal socks, only to find, when I unwrapped his gift to me,that he'd bought me an iPad.
Made me feel bad that.
So how much do you spend on those relatives you hardly ever see? £5,£10?
Should I even bother at all?

Tinned Toms - You know it makes sense!

Relatives other than my kids are lucky if they get a tenner spent on them. All my money goes into my kids at Christmas and they cost a bloody fortune. If people don't like it it's tough shit.

I'd agree. Quite frankly,I'm sick and tired of giving and receiving socks/slippers/bath salts.
Complete waste of time.
It's a time for kids,and making a few memories.

Every year my auntie gives me Avon bubble bath, loads of it. I don't even use it. It's giving for the sake of it. Not trying to be ungrateful but I'd rather they spent a bit more on the kids instead.

Last year my Niece bought us a 'Simpsons' shower curtain.
I don't even like The Simpsons.

Is it me,or is it snowing on 'nuts?

My missus is very good at not spending a fortune on the gifts for the rest of the family but making them really thoughtful. Like last year my uncle spends a lot of time in the far east and is a big star wars fan. She got him light sabre chopsticks. 8 quid. But the look on his face. Priceless.

But i agree, its all about the kids. But i have also spent quite a bit on the missus this year. Jesus, she deserves it for putting up with me
