Bolton Wanderers Under-18s fell to a convincing defeat away at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
Despite dominating proceedings during the opening quarter against the Terriers, the young Whites were unable to capitalise on their opportunities in front of goal with Huddersfield wasting no time in taking control of proceedings as the half wore on.
Bolton were punished as the hosts took advantage of three defensive errors to take a 3-0 lead, before netting their fourth from the penalty spot.
Huddersfield added a fifth courtesy of another defensive mix-up, before Alex Samizadeh scored a consolation for the Trotters as he headed home Cole Lonsdale's cross.
However, the forward was sent off in the aftermath following an altercation with the Huddersfield goalkeeper, as Wanderers fell to a heavy defeat.
After the game, Under-18s coach David Lee told bwfc.co.uk; "It was a shock performance and result today. We couldn't take our chances and then conceded three poor goals.
"Overall, our young players need to cut out their mistakes as they are being punished by the opposition.
"However, one positive was the involvement of another under-16s player, who did very well upon his introduction."
TEAM
Bolton: Turner, Everest, Lonsdale, Honeyball, Brockbank (Grivosti 45), Earing (Politic 60), Pearson, Griffiths, Samazideh, Abdo, White.
