I know there's probably a RIP thread for every day of the year at the moment, but with this fella being Bolton born and bred I don't think we can let it go without a mention.

Personally I remember him from The Pianist and a few recent TV drama parts, but I know he's done other bigger things, a lot of it on the stage.

Along with Sir Ian Mckellan, one of the truly great actors of his generation. A huge loss to stage and screen.

I didn't know he was a Bowton lad! RIP. The most famous acting son from our neck of the woods, that I can remember was Robert Shaw who was born in Westhoughton iirc.
