Neil Lennon was a relieved man after surviving the January transfer window with his first team intact.

Despite heavy speculation linking the likes of Zach Clough, Josh Vela and Rob Holding with moves away from the Macron, the Wanderers boss heads to Wolves tonight in high spirits having kept the majority of his squad together.

Francesco Pisano completed a season-long loan move to US Avelino, while Prince-Desire Gouano joined Turkish club Gaziantepspor.

Lawrie Wilson returned from Peterborough United but otherwise it was a quiet day on the transfer front for the Whites, when it looked like being much, much worse.

Having kept hold of his young stars Lennon has now urged his senior players to give them more help in the survival fight.

Wanderers travel to Molineux looking to close the gap on safety and Saturday’s opponents Rotherham United to two points.

And Lennon is calling on senior stars like Dean Moxey, Mark Davies, Dorian Dervite and Liam Feeney to give their less experienced team-mates a helping hand to deal with the pressure.

“The young players aren’t my problem – I want the senior players to rally, use their experience and coax the younger ones through it.

“The young ones have been fabulous. Rob Holding has been a real find, Josh Vela is a good player and we know all about Zach.

“We want these lads to come through but they need help. The senior lads need to talk them through games and not just do their own individual jobs. That is not enough.”

Lennon revealed there had been strong interest in defender Holding in last few weeks and The Bolton News understands a bid from an un-named Championship club has been turned down.

“Further down the line I think we’ll be looking at giving him a new contract in the next couple of months if he carries on playing the way he’s playing,” he said of the 20-year-old, whose current deal runs out this summer.

“He’s a very well-rounded individual, there’s an intelligence and a maturity about him.

“He’s in the infancy of his career. We feel he’s got potential in the game and it excites us – you are looking to build this place around him.”

“There are the future of the club, assets of the team, and we just want some of the more senior ones who’ve done reasonably okay to do a little more at times.”
