This seems right to me - speaking as a 65 year old. Only following Bolton causes me a lot of unhappiness these days.

Also as a 65 year old, I would say that I'm as happy as I have ever been, (I think the term 'contented' would be a little more apt)

It's all about setting and maintaining realistic expectations.

I've got a roof over my head, enough food to eat, a lovely family and some great friends.

Nobody's dropping bombs on my village, I don't have to trek 3 miles to get (dirty) water, I don't have to pledge daily allegiance to some mad dictator who thinks he's a god, I don't have to worry about my crops failing or my cattle dying and everything's pretty sweet.

When I read hotel reviews in which people are moaning because the wi-fi isn't the fastest, I want to punch them and shout "First World bollocks! Get over it!"

Simple really.

I'd be a lot happier if the takeover/administration thing was resolved one way or the other but then I'd probably find something else to worry about.

I'm in the invidious position of not having friends because I'm the only rank in my immediate sphere. So those senior look down on me with disdain and those junior to me look up with resentment. On the other hand, when a pilot is in trouble he asks for my help so at least I am needed in that case. Additionally, I spend a fair amount of time at civvy airports as the RAF don't have many facilities for training me and/or keeping me current. So the civvies have a sneering attitude as it's beneath them to accept me as I'm probably one of those who bombs civvy hospitals in sandy places and other misinformed bullsh1t. And they get paid more than I do. Still, off to Marham next week so might be amongst equals then. It's a bugger being a God, but someone has to do it.
