The cavalry looks like arriving just in time for Neil Lennon ahead of this weekend’s trip to Brighton.
Zach Clough, Gary Madine and Neil Danns should be available for selection at the Amex Stadium as they Whites look to extend their unbeaten run to four games.
And that should ease some worries for the Bolton boss after he expressed some serious concern with how thin his squad has become in recent weeks.
“We’ve lost players and it has left us very short,” he told The Bolton News. “To describe it as difficult would be an understatement.
“We’ve had to change the way we play to get our better players on the pitch and I think that seven points out of nine is pretty much as good as we could have hoped for.
“I’m hoping by Saturday I’ll have a few more bodies to pick from – we’re hoping Zach will be involved again – plus one or two others. That will help us a lot because we have really struggled for strikers in particular.”
Clough has not played since January 12 because of a hip problem, which flared up again at the end of last week and ruled him out of the win against Rotherham United.
Madine should also be available again after pulling out of the squad a few days earlier against Wolves with a back problem.
Danns, an unused sub on Saturday, made his playing return for the development squad against Barnsley on Monday, playing 76 minutes in the 1-0 defeat at Oakwell.
Necessity has proved the mother of invention for Lennon, however, and though his squad has been trimmed down considerably he has managed to bring out the best in some players who were previously struggling, most notably Liam Trotter.
The manager admitted he regretted dropping the former Millwall man against Rotherham but praised the way he came off the bench to make a match-winning contribution to Kaiyne Woolery’s winning goal.
“I was delighted with Liam,” he said. “He was naturally disappointed to be left out but he didn’t sulk or mope around. When we asked him to go and do a job, he did it, and it was a wonderful ball through to Sparky for the goal.
“He’s playing the kind of football we knew he was capable of at the moment, and long may that continue because he has always had that in him.”
