Wanderers’ Under-18s picked up their first win of the calendar year with a 2-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
The young Whites started brightly and dominated in possession for the first 20 minutes, creating a number of good chances.
Against the run of play however, the Railwaymen scored courtesy of a well-worked effort, but Bolton responded well with Luke Griffiths levelling the scores after picking up possession and firing home from 18 yards.
Remaining in control of the clash throughout the first half, Enock Likoy-Elumba went close with a good run and shot while Jack Earing scored from an offside position, with his effort being ruled out.
The second period started with a good tempo with Alex Samizadeh almost scoring within the first minute of the half, forcing Crewe’s keeper into a smart save.
He proceeded to come close yet again soon afterwards, rounding the goalkeeper before eventually shooting wide.
Wanderers however continued to threaten as a team, with both wide areas being utilised to get cross into the mix on a regular basis.
They eventually found the winner however, with a number of players combining well with several quick passes in and around the penalty area, allowing Samizadeh to drill home from an angle 15 yards out and secure all three points for David Lee’s youngsters.
Speaking following the final whistle, head coach Lee said: “We started the game brightly and some of our play was superb.
“We especially worked well on the wide areas which is a learning curve for the players in order to teach them about creating better quality in the attacking third.
"Overall, it was a hard-working performance with some very good individual displays."
