This probably won't interest most people but as an occasional player of Go and someone who is interested in AI I found this fascinating. You need to read the whole article if you haven't heard of Go to appreciate the implications of this development.

I've never really got the hang of Go.

I've tried to play a few times (even bought a Go board and counters once) but never really fully understood the intricacies of the game.

I guess it was obvious one day that a super computer which can calculate all possible moves in a blink would one day beat the world champion.

Maybe now we could borrow the computer for a while and see if it can work out how to get the club out of its financial mess!

Computers were winning at chess 30 years ago so it's a measure of the complexity of Go that it's taken so long to create a competitive one. Had to be AI as the number of position permutations is practically infinite.
