Bolton Wanderers Under-18s bounced back from their midweek cup defeat to Oldham to beat Cardiff City on Saturday.

Facing off at Lostock in their penultimate league game of the season, the young Whites took the lead as Matthew Fearnley continued his recent run in front of goal, turning well before finishing inside the area.

Harry Brockbank doubled Bolton's lead after heading home Max Allen's corner, while Luca Navarro missed three good opportunities to extend the Trotters' lead further.

A defensive mix-up gifted Cardiff a goal shortly after the break, but Navarro finally got his named on the scoresheet to restore Wanderers' two-goal lead, reacting first after Tyrell Palmer hit the crossbar.

Substitute Ronaldo Pearson went close to extending the Whites' lead further, only for Cardiff to net a late consolation in controversial circumstances.

But despite the late scare, Bolton held on to clinch back-to-back league wins.

Speaking following the final whistle, head coach David Lee said: "Overall it was a dominant performance, though with better finishing, the scoreline should have been higher.

"We created a number of chances and it was good to see Matthew Fearnley and Luca Navarro on the scoresheet again.

"Cardiff scored after we gave up possession in the wrong area, before a controversial goal-line decision went against us.

"The players responded well after their cup disappointment in midweek and it was a good win for us."

TEAM

Bolton: Turner, Everest, Grant, Brockbank, Grivosti, Allen, Griffiths, Earing, Fearnley (Pearson 65), Navarro, White (Palmer 70).
