Wanderers have a potential problem on the right side of their defence for tomorrow’s home clash with Hull City.
Oscar Threlkeld has been ruled out of the game with a hamstring injury and Josh Vela – who has filled in several times this season in the back four – is struggling with a knee problem.
With Niall Maher suspended, Jimmy Phillips could be forced to recall Lawrie Wilson for his first appearance since March 12.
Mark Davies is expected to return to the squad after recovering from a bruised knee but Phillips confirmed yesterday Gary Madine would not be considered as he continues his return from a hip injury.
Emile Heskey will once again be asked to play up front alone and the lack of attacking options continues to be a source of frustration for the interim boss.
“Since we took charge we’ve very rarely been able to take advantage of our attacking options – Gary Madine was injured in the first game, so was Wellington Silva and Liam Feeney was loaned out to Ipswich Town,” he said.
“It has severely limited us. Trying to cope with it is the key and I think against Cardiff we created some very good chances.
“I don’t think it’s ever been a case of just fulfilling fixtures. We have always put a team out trying to win the game.
“We have fielded younger players, given them an opportunity, and it’s been great to see a few of them do well.”
