The Pack Horse sounds  about right Cajun. It was the only place that allowed him in with the monkey.

We don't talk about the monkey.

Hilda Baker had a little monkey too.

She often lunched in the restaurant at the Capitol Cinema in Churchgate.

The monkey used to perch on her shoulder as she tucked into Tripe and Onions, one of her favourite meals.

Arthur Askey and his lemur were always seen Leverhulme park on a Thursday, the lemur loved manfredis ice cream and used to dry hump the car park ballads

I see a few know Egerton park - I was taken to the swings there when I was a toddler but my memory is going to Egerton baths (Water St) and then walking from the park through "the Clough" (which is now houses) behind what was Colonel Knowles's place to the quarry at Dunscar. It were all trees when I were a lad and I think I had my first sexual experience there with Ruth P. Hard to tell when you're 9 but I do remember getting her knickers off. Can't have been that great as she moved to Canada a year later. Everyone a critic huh?

Moss Bank Park - obvious memory is the "rock" festival with the Bolton Iron Maiden doing Cherry Red and me getting totally wankered which pissed off my girlfriend. Or more accurately topping up from the party we'd had the night before. I reckon that would be 1970ish but it did feel like the summer of love.

Walking through Queen's Park with my mate having a fag when our teacher appears coming towards us, so we palmed the fags and put our hands in our school blazer pockets till he'd gone. A couple of minutes later, smoke comes out of my mates blazer pocket and the lining had caught on fire so we stomped on it but there was a massive hole. Not wanting to tell his mum, he came to my house and I gave him my old one - which was about 3 inches short in the arms and covered with potato and gravy stains. He wore it for the rest of the term. His mum had noticed but he just brassed it out and pretended he didn't know what had happened to it.

Some great parks in Bolton when you think about it.

The Hilda Baker story is true, apart from the tripe and onions.

Poor Hylda. Less than ten people attended her funeral.

She wasn't well liked. Co star Jimmy Jewel despised her.

Demolished (along with most of the rest of School Hill) about 10 years ago to make way for new housing.

It looks like this now:

I may have told this one before on here but I lived around the corner from a family in Smithills called the Fairclough's when I was a kid.

There were about 6 kids and they were all dead artistic and theatrical.

My mum worked with their mum at the local doctors surgery and we used to refer to them as the Von Trapps.

Anyway, Hylda Baker was the mum's aunty and after she died, the PRS cheques went to the Fairclough household every time a repeat of anything with HB in it was shown on telly.

They used to get a cheque for about 12p every time an episode of Nearest & Dearest aired.

One of the Von Trapp kids (Neil) was the year above me at school and we were briefly in a band together in the mid-80's.

He played the bass and thought he was king shit but I like to believe that my guitar playing was what really drew the crowds to the music room at Smithills for our lunchtime gigs.

Here he is (on the left in the daft hat) with his band. They're called Queen or summat. Stupid name for a band if you ask me. They'll never take off:
