Manager Phil Parkinson spoke to Wanderers’ official YouTube channel following his side’s 2-0 victory over York City at Bootham Crescent on Saturday.

Taking an early lead through Mark Davies, the Whites lost both Zach Clough and trialist Frazer Richardson to injury in the first half.

A tale of two penalties after the break, Mark Howard saved well from Scott Fenwick before Jamie Proctor sealed victory for Bolton late on.

And offering up his thoughts on the game following the final whistle in York, Parkinson covered the following points…

On the team’s performance throughout the game…
We showed a strong mentality today and I think that is getting better at the club as we progress through pre-season.

You’ve got to make sure you start a game mentally and physically ready and today we did just that. We showed a strong mentality and I think that is getting better at the club as we progress through pre-season.

We were a lot more positive in the final third and there was a lot more energy in the team. We want to be really positive and get defences on the back-foot and I think we did that really well.

On Mark Davies' performance…
We want to pass the ball but we want to pass it with a purpose, to penetrate the opposition’s back four.

We’re gradually getting that and Mark Davies sparked that off today. He leads by the way he plays and the rest of the team responded to his positivity at the start of the game.

I’m pleased with his contribution today. He looked so dangerous today when we got him on the ball in advanced positions and it was an excellent finish for his goal.

On Zach Clough and Frazer Richardson's injuries...
I hope it is precautionary with Zach but we don’t know yet. He felt his hamstring tighten up. I don’t think it’s pulled, we’ll know more tomorrow. It’ll be a blow if he is out because he looked really sharp in that role – we’ll have to wait and see.

Frazer has opened up his medial ligament. It’s a shame because I thought he started the game really well. He’s an experienced player and a good pro. We’ll have to assess him tomorrow.

On Jamie Proctor's appearance from the substitutes' bench…
Proccy worked really hard when he came on. He won the penalty and stuck it away. He’s missed a little bit of football this week but he was excellent when he came on.

On pre-season so far and upcoming home fixtures against Burnley and Preston North End…
We’ve had a lot of games on the road and I think that has been a good thing after last year. It has given us the opportunity to get the experience today of standing strong as a group when things go against you, as we saw today with their penalty.

Now we look forward to two great tests at home in the next week or so.
