Bolton Nuts

Admin

Looking at our squad we have a number of players either with direct Premier League experience or who have been seen as potential Premier League players.

The likes of Amos, formally of Man Utd, and experienced players like Pratley, Wheater and Spearing (Liverpool) are backed by a few very well admired attackers like Clough and Mark Davies aswell as the up and coming Woolery. Moxey, Dervite and Madine will all consider themselves to be playing below their true level.

So, should we walk this league? Are we too good?

Or are we too good to actually do well? Would some of our players actually be better in the Prem than they can be in this league? Will every team be up for it against us and thus make us struggle?

We should piss this league, if our mentality is on the ball.

its all down to the first half dozen games or so. No doubt the players, as well as us supporters, expect them to at least hold their own, if not have a good start. If they don't then the old malaise could set in and we'd have to rely on the manager to pull them out of the long, and slow, nose dive into depression and defeat.
Personally,  I think we will do well, but champions we ain't, at least not on first showing. I would hope that we at least reach the play-offs. One thing we do know, its going to be a long season Very Happy

Meant to say, that scion of football, Ian Holloway, has predicted that we will lose 1-2 to Sheffield United in our first game. No pressure then Very Happy

No evidence has been provided either way at this point.  We still don't have a decent striker and who is our back four?  yet to be determined.  On paper we should do ok.  Saturday will be a good measure to start with. I think three points are vital ....for confidence, hopes etc....

On paper we were too good for the Championship when we came down look how that panned out, matches aren't won on paper neither are leagues.
I actually believe we have a management team who won't allow people to hide and still get picked every week and that is a massive step forward IMO.

Although we haven't actually played a minute of competitive football yet, I suspect that we are probably good enough for League 1 but way short of Championship standard so I also hope we can make the playoffs.
But we'll know absolutely nothing until the season is well and truly underway.

And as for this nonsense about the Premiership? The only thing our players proved in that regard was that none of them were anywhere near good enough to hack it - which is exactly what you'd expect from League 1 standard players.

I think we'll miss out on the playoffs. Maybe top 10.

We are NOT too good for League One. If we were we wouldn't be here and league tables don't lie. Should we get immediate promotion? ON paper very probably but we said that about going back to the Prem after being relegated from there. Frankly I don't know what to expect this season, I believe we will finish in the top half but beyond that I'm not really able to predict anything. Of course if we perform as well as we should then promotion is a very real possibility but that's the rub isn't it? Will we perform to our best consistently enough or will it be another season of massively overpaid underachieving players who don't seem to know or care what's expected of them?

You can't keep going on about players wages....one guy gets more money than the other guy that's just the way their agents haggled it at the time.  It has nowt to do with skill on the park.  More money does not necessarily mean a better footballer. If fact we have just proven it by being the worst team in the Champs with a lot of high paid ponces (per Nat).
So suggesting that because we have a higher payroll than most other in the league will guarantee anything is a load of bollocks IMO.
The way the team is set up, tactics, substitutions etc. is more likely to decide our fate.  That we will see starting Saturday.

How can anyone know where we will be, when we don't have a handle on the finances?  We know not what the ownership knows or doesn't know, and we have slid down on the slope of shaky finances.  What has changed since that time?  Does the club have any money to spend on promotion?  Is ownership looking to get out or to find a partner?  Until some of these questions are answered, will Phil find a way to motivate those left on the club?  Do we still have Clough as of September?  Do we have anyone who can score goals?  The club has become a soap opera... and we but wistful observers of the upper echelon machinations that run the club.

To your points..... finance = none, Ownership = Dodgy,  Goal scorer = No.
What we don't know is how the team will shape up under Phil.
Best we can hope for is that we pull a Leicester City whereby team work and effort gets the job done.

I've never felt less confident about anything in my life than the sentiment that we'll walk this league.

It shocks me frankly that anybody would have this "we have players that are Premier League quality on their day" sort of optimism now.

I mean just look back at all the positivity when we got relegated to the Championship. I think at least half of our fanbase probably thought we'd go straight back up on 100+ points, but actually the four years we had in that division were absolutely dire on every level.

You can't take anything for granted, whether it's the Championship, League One or the National League North. To be honest, I still expect the likes of Davies and Clough to have a number off days even in League One.
