Phil Parkinson has given special praise to players who HAVEN’T been involved in Wanderers’ 100 per cent start to the season.

Though the likes of Jay Spearing, Josh Vela, and Gary Madine have grabbed the headlines as the Whites made their best start to a campaign for 82 years, Parkinson insists it has been a complete squad effort.

Wanderers have used 18 different players in League One already this season – with new boys such as Andrew Taylor and Jamie Proctor limited to just a handful of appearances.

The manager has been delighted by their reaction, however, in what he believes will be a long season with opportunities for all.

“The new lads have settled well with the existing ones, that’s been very, very important,” he told The Bolton News.

“Signing the right characters is absolutely crucial, especially in the situation we were in this summer coming to the club.

“Some of them have come straight into the side, some of them have had to be a little patient. And it’s the ones who haven’t necessarily played every week that I have been most pleased with because their attitude has been excellent.

“It’s all very well being a great lad around the place when you are in the team but when things are not going well for you personally, it’s vital you stay part of the squad and do your bit in the dressing room on matchdays and during the week.

“What you know about this season is that there are so many games that you will get your chance somewhere down the line, you just have to make sure you are ready for it.”
