Fortified by a succulent steak and ale pie, the main topics for discussion on Saturday were getting hold of tickets for away matches and making arrangements to get there.

The better-than-expected start to the season has brought back our enthusiasm for the team and we’re actually looking forward to going to the games again.

There is a definite sense our slide might have been arrested and the fightback has begun.

There was a positive response to Ken Anderson’s interview on Radio Manchester with respect and agreement with what he was saying.

Some MK Dons fans were saying before the match that if we didn’t score early, then we aren’t very good as most other teams do manage an early goal against them.

We gladly accepted their advice and Mark Beevers smashed one in after only seven minutes.

The signs looked good for another three points but that was as good as it got. We were a bit flat against a 10-man defence.

MK Dons certainly received the better half-time team talk as they fought their way back into the game.

Their equaliser duly came from Ryan Colclough, on loan from our repechage team, Wigan Athletic.

There was the usual quota of debatable refereeing decisions that are becoming the norm in

this league.

Jamie Proctor was knocked about without any response from referee Peter Bankes and yet MK Dons were awarded a penalty for a foul outside of the box.

Thankfully Mark Howard tipped it on to the bar.

In the end, a draw was a fair result.

The last two home matches have been reality checks.

It’s going to be a long, hard season where we have to fight for every point.

We’re top after seven matches but that doesn’t mean a thing as it is where we are after 46 that counts.

The signs are we can compete at this level and that we are becoming difficult to beat.

However, we don’t want too many draws trying to preserve the unbeaten run.

It’s still early days and we have a new team and new management.

Seven out of the 11 who started the match for us, only joined this season.

It takes time for players to bed in and knit together as a team.

Injuries haven’t helped but it’s one step at a time and so far, the steps have been in the right direction.
