It's a tough one to call is that Deano! Clause 23 states that the bookies can refuse to honour the bet if incorrectly placed but if the bet produces no winnings then they can allow it to stand so I think we should go with the bookies interpretation!

I have no objection to Mark using the last of his money. Many bookmakers have a minimum stake of 50p,but some accept less,as can be seen here.
Interesting that Betfred is in the 10 worst bookmakers list. Along with a few others.
I mainly use Betfair.

Ahoy Gimlet, I ran it by my local bookmaker, Mr Hobson and he told me I had a choice. I could either reject your bet because it was less than a £1 or I could deduct it from your stake next month. So, in the interest of bonhomie I have deducted the 36p from next month so you start with £49.64 instead of £50. 

Mise En Rose was unplaced whether or not.
