okocha wrote:Yep, Beckham is impressive. He has transformed himself to rise above his limited background and volatile temperament into a respected, articulate role model, able to argue persuasively for the Olympic Games etc. How much influence has Victoria been? He doesn't look out of place mixing with politicians, the media and royalty, but has remained grounded and humble.
From the opposite end of the social scale, Prince Harry is an excellent shout too.

Has there ever been a 'cooler' couple in the White House'?

Apparently she's a man.
And with more people forming their opinions after watching "news" channels like this one nowadays, as opposed to via more traditional means (ie a regulated press), is it any wonder we got Brexit and Trump?

Unfortunately he couldn't beat a man, unlike the Best number 7 the scum had!y2johnny wrote:Job competed if you ask me.
On the field he was a great captain, motivator and led by example. All three of those things are a talent alone. Free kicks, crosses and he got stuck in.
In fact he couldn't beat an egg!
Soz he was a bit of a lettuce compared to quite a lot that's gone before.

As for being impressed, the new grinning monkey from UKIP is impressive. All for the working man apparently but willing to sacrifice the working man's health for profit!!

I remember a pre-match interview with Rooney and Beckham, where the interviewer was getting nowhere with Rooney about his latest misdemeanor, with many 'No comments', so decided to talk about the upcoming game. He said to Beckham, 'And how do you see the game going ?', to which he replied 'No comment'. Nuff said

Glos: It's Beckham's progress and achievements in life which are remarkable, both on and off the pitch that have made him an icon and role model. Not sure I can think of many others who have made so much of their lives from such humble origins and education.
He played a key role as an ambassador for the successful London Olympics bid. Lord Coe and David Cameron claimed that Beckham was the clinching factor, responding convincingly to all questions put to him.
He has been a UNICEF UK ambassador since 2005, and in 2015 he launched The David Beckham UNICEF Fund to help protect children in danger around the world. His contribution to worthy causes and charitable work is outstanding. He is a respected figure internationally.

My nephew with cerebral palsy attended the same special school as Brooklyn and Posh and Becks turned up to their sports day, mingled with the other parents, presented the prizes and spent the whole day there cheering on the kids - not just a celebrity appearance. That earned them my respect especially as it was at the height of their fame.
Obama didn't achieve as much as he would have liked to as pretty much everything he did was blocked by the Republican Senate. In fact the Senate passed a bill repealing key parts of Obamacare. The American system stopped Obama making the changes he wanted to so not his fault.

From the political world, Mo Mowlam, Tony Benn, didn't always agree with them but you could be sure that they believed in what they were saying.

Good choice there Nick. Mo Mowlam was an excellent politician, and, (seemingly), a very honest one.

Did you really just write "politician" and "honest" in the same sentence?
Shame on you.

Speaking of impressive people, why had I never heard of this woman?
After watching this I delved a little deeper. Remarkable woman.

Kevin Spacey?okocha wrote:Some folk come across as really impressive with a demeanour, attitude and articulacy to admire:- the husband of Jo Cox has really conducted himself remarkably well......a fitting husband for the equally impressive late MP.
Am struggling to think of many others, certainly not among politicians or celebs.
Ideas? Eddie Howe? Greg Rutherford? Justin Rose? Tom Hanks? Kevin Spacey?
That comment hasn't aged well

Very true, Norpig! Fascinating to read back through this thread and see names that we would no longer have on the list.
Controversially, I'm always impressed by Andy Burnham. Would we add Marcus Rashford? Or the husband of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe?
A list of the 100 women of the year has just been released......I had only heard of a handful of them

How about Marcus Rashford's personal publicist, Kelly Hogarth? She has to be on the list, hasn't she?
Here's another photo of Saint Marcus decked out tastefully in Burberry with Dwayne and Dane alongside.

Never had much time for politicians especially Tories but there is one man i always rated and that's Michael Heseltine. Always seemed to me to be more principled than the rest and even now is much more sensible and willing to listen and work with the other parties and devolved governments and areas.
Saw him on North West Tonight recently for the first time in a long while and he did impress me.
