Great frontman with King Crimson and later ELP has passed away at 69 after a battle with cancer.
Anybody half interested or just getting into music around the late sixties will know the cover from the Court of the Crimson King and his vocals were typified on that album.
His outstanding vocals on the later ELP album Pictures At An Exhibition were always an highlight of his work for me but unfortunately, as happens with some bands, the members' heads disappeared up their own arseholes as time went on. Never really got into his solo work.
RIP

Really sorry to hear this. Was a big ELP nut as a lad.

RIP.

For all his good music, my favourite remains his Christmas song.

May he RIP.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I only discovered that he was in King Crimson a couple of years ago (too young, not my bag growing up).

Only when I learnt the truth and heard In The Court Of The Crimson King on the radio (for the 300th time), did it hit me that it was obviously his voice that I'd been hearing for all those years.

Sad news that he's popped off.

The opening few bars on Barbarian are still awesome with his wah wah driven bass and it was a marvellous show opener in the early days.
His death has brought a lot of memories back of my early music days. My Planet Rocks on Planet Rock at 9_30 pm tonite  has a 2005 interview with him for anybody interested?

Carl Palmer has just said on PR that in the early days he was a "folkie" that played bass guitar. Perhaps a fair assumption?

RIP Greg. Brings back many great memories from my early days following music. ELP at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester being the main one. They were brilliant in the early days. This track was always a favourite of mine and the first time I became aware of Greg.

22nd March 71 and 10th December 71 were the two occasions I saw them, both at the FTH. After that my interest began to wane as they had started "rambling".
The December night was a biggie as Wishbone Ash did a late night gig at BIT and that was a great nightcap.
Furthermore that was also the night FZ ended up in the orchestra pit at the Rainbow.
Happy days.

Court and Larks are the only two I have on vinyl these days.
