Phil Parkinson is proud to see Wanderers battling to the bitter end.
After snatching three points against Scunthorpe United on Saturday in injury time the Whites left it late again before grabbing a draw at Coventry.
The club developed an unwanted reputation for conceding late goals last season – but Parkinson believes the squad has strengthened its mentality since his arrival in the summer and paid tribute to the resolve they showed over the festive period.
“I think the seven points we took over three games were hard-fought,” he told The Bolton News. “The lads will feel they deserved every one of them.
“If we hadn’t got back into the Coventry game it would have been turned into a negative but we ground out a draw and that could be a very important point.
“To see them go a goal down, I wanted to see what the reaction would be.
“It has happened a couple of times, the most recent one being Chesterfield, where I felt there was an acceptance that we were not going to get anything by the end of the game.
“You could see that the lads had learned from what had happened there.
“When you go behind in a game you have to change what you are doing and it’s not a situation we’ve had to come up against much.
“We worked on it in training over Christmas, on what we’d do if we found ourselves behind again, looking at ways to change games. It worked.”
Meanwhile, talks have continued between Wanderers and Newcastle United over Sammy Ameobi’s future.
The Magpies have put a stop on the winger extending his loan spell at the Macron after problems arose with payments on his original four-month stay.
Chairman Ken Anderson is hoping to resolve the situation quickly and bring the 24-year-old back for the rest of the season.
Ameobi is cup-tied and cannot play for Newcastle this weekend but Rafa Benitez has not ruled out the possibility he could be involved in the coming weeks.
“He has done well with Bolton,” he said. “We’ll bring him back and see if he is fine and can give us something. If he’d doing well why not? “It depends on him if he can stay here or not.”
