Wanderers would guarantee themselves a £250,000 pay day if they pull off a shock against Crystal Palace in their FA Cup replay next week.
Phil Parkinson’s side will host Manchester City if they can upset the odds and dump former manager Sam Allardyce and his Eagles out of the competition at Selhurst Park next Tuesday.
No-one at the Macron is counting their chickens – with Parkinson warning that all focus must be kept on the upcoming League One clash with Swindon Town before considering the replay.
But the incentive of a big home gate to watch Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing Blues in round four has whet the fans’ appetite, and if the television schedulers agree, another £144,000 could be ploughed into the coffers.
Firstly, Wanderers have to focus their attention on the visit of struggling Swindon this weekend but Parkinson admits there is a spring in the step of his players after another encouraging performance against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
“When you’ve played as well as that against Premier League opposition you have to take great heart from it,” he told The Bolton News. “That game was another good confidence builder for the team and individuals within the side.
“All I want from the players now is to continue a good week on the training ground and we can look forward to Swindon on Saturday. You can’t look further ahead, we must be completely prepared for that game and then we will worry about the replay.”
As The Bolton News went to press, the replay at Selhurst Park was NOT scheduled to be televised by either the BBC or BT Sport.
Tickets for the game are priced at £18 for season ticket holders (£20 non-season ticket holders) and £10 for concessions, going on general sale this Friday.
Meanwhile, Wanderers’ hopes of loaning Adam Le Fondre have taken a dent after Wigan Athletic revealed striker Nick Powell could miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
Heavy hints had been dropped at the Macron that the Whites were waiting to pounce if Le Fondre’s loan at the DW Stadium was cut short by either Wigan or his parent club Cardiff.
