PHIL Parkinson accepts his attacking players just did not come up to scratch as they chased the game against 10-man Charlton on Saturday.
Wanderers failed to create a single chance of note in the second half as they trailed 2-1 despite having all of their recognised strikers on the pitch at one stage.
Parkinson confirmed he would be looking to add at least one attacking player before the deadline, with Burnley’s Chris Long set to sign on loan until the end of the season.
But a desperately disappointed Wanderers boss vowed to “get things right” on the training ground at Lostock this week in an effort to find a first win of 2017.
“Charlton’s goalkeeper wasn’t tested,” he said. “That isn’t good enough for the quality of players we have in this team.
“We tried everything to change it round, made substitutions, changed the shape of the team, it was more the intent and belief around the penalty box.
“We did put some good deliveries in there and it was crying out for someone to get on the end of it.
“The game is won and lost in both boxes.
“You can have as much possession as you want in the middle of the pitch.
“People can bang on about possession stats, but you have to get across your man to score and put your body on the line to stop the ball going in at the other end.
“All we can do is get back on the training pitch and make sure our standards are where we need them to be.”
