What has changed in the side in the last month?
In my view, it is down to five factors which need to be present in the remaining 10 games of the season.
1. Desire and belief – the super win at Fleetwood seems to have given the players the belief they are technically as good as any team and provided the realisation we can get back in the Championship. The desire was there for all to see in the last two games.
2. A fit goalscorer – Adam Le Fondre was back to his best in the last two games, poaching in the box and getting into goalscoring positions. He has taken time to get match fit but he is now up and running and will be a crucial piece in the puzzle.
3. Quality deliveries – Filipe Morais has provided an outstanding contribution over the last two games with seven consecutive assists and his crosses have been perfect. The final ball has been a problem previously but if Morais can continue in this form, there will be plenty of opportunities for Gary Madine and Le Fondre to win games.
4. Contribution from all positions – looking at the goalscoring statistics, we are in a great position despite not having a 15-20-goal striker. We have had 17 different goalscorers from all areas of the pitch. All the team are chipping in, notably David Wheater and Mark Beevers. This is a great recipe for winning games.
5. Darren Pratley – many felt a long-term lay-off for Jay Spearing would scupper our automatic promotion chances, but Pratley has come back into the side and is at his best.
We have come into form at the right time and it is critical these five factors continue if we are to be promoted automatically. I believe we will do it.
