Obviously it was a slow start for us and we were disappointed to concede the goal in the manner that we did.
After that though, I thought we played well. We got into some great positions and had some great chances, particularly in the first half when Conor came close.
I thought second half, we gave absolutely everything to get back into it.
There was some great defending from Scunthorpe though and some superb saves from their goalkeeper to keep them in front.
We just couldn’t find that goal today, but in terms of the effort I thought the lads did everything we asked of them but it just wasn’t to be.
On the challenge of Scunthorpe…
Prior to us beating them over Christmas, they were the team to beat in this division and they’ve had some good results at home of late.
They’ve got some good players and that showed today at times, but we couldn’t have given much more.
There is a manner in which you can get beaten and that was it today.
On maintaining the seven point gap on third place Fleetwood…
We will definitely take that. Going into a week where you’ve got Southend and Scunthorpe away, to come out of it with a seven point gap and a better goal difference than the teams around us is something we’d have taken at the start for sure.
We’ve got to be pleased, but there’s work to be done. Scunthorpe just started a little more energetically than us, which is perhaps a reflection of our trip to Southend in midweek.
Once we got a foothold in the game though, I felt we played well.
And finally, on the fantastic away following…
They were superb as always today. Obviously they knew the scores coming through during the game and they were really positive as well with the lads at the end because they could see a team that had given their all.
