He may have deserted the team (BS at its best)... but was he at fault or was it PG and ED?
He may have said the wrong thing (BS redux) when finally given the England squad.
But you can't fault his record...

Sam Allardyce has never been relegated as a manager of a Premier league club but he believes that record is in jeopardy at Crystal Palace, who have only goal difference to thank for keeping them out of the relegation zone.
Allardyce is still looking for his first win at the club since taking over from Alan Pardew last month. Their 3-0 defeat to West Ham at the weekend was their seventh league game without a win.
"I am scared that we won't succeed. Definitely. It's a hard task to take on, but I'm willing to go on at it and use all my experience I have gained," Allardyce, who has managed six top flight clubs, told British media.

"I'm not fearful of losing my job. It's the fear of not wanting to blemish my record and helping Crystal Palace get out of trouble when it has stayed in the Premier League so long recently.

"What we have to do is see ourselves through this crisis. Let's face it, we are in crisis mode. On my track record I've proven that, but there are so many elements that make life difficult for you."

Give the man credit... BSA is no BS when it comes to saving teams in the first tier.  Today he officially saved Palace from the drop... though Hull helped an awful lot.

I feel that to some extent BSA is still not given the credit he deserves for what he achieved at Bolton. He was an innovator and ahead of his time in many ways yet people still moan that he left us with an old squad.

He has done wonders at West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace and who cares about what he did at Newcastle and Blackburn.

He was also stitched up over the England job. He said some foolish things but he did nothing illegal or corrupt and yet he was forced to resign.

Now over to Nat for a different view.

Embarrassing post. Says a lot about you if you think the England manager did nothing wrong.

A dishwasher could have kept Palace up, they'd spent millions on players and had a very good squad.

For the most part since Limerick and Notts County, BSA has been lucky enough to work with some top class talent including Champions League and World Cup winners. In most cases he has taken them on when they were underperforming and/or undervalued and that especially refers to the likes of Okocha, Campo, Hierro and Anelka who ED took a punt on at a time when they were marginalised in the game. There is little doubt that BSA has a talent for telling them to stop feeling sorry for themselves and to prove they still have it and often as not they have done the business - although there were plenty who didn't hack it. Looking at you in particular Mr Jardel.
With the players he had at Bolton I genuinely wonder if he might have done better than he actually did? After all we didn't win anything at all over the several seasons we were in the mix.
And I don't think that fans pointing out that the key players in his squad had aged and would need replacing by the time he left us is anything other than the truth rather than moaning as suggested - but that was the inevitable outcome of buying players at the end of their careers.
Palace is a similar situation. A team littered with internationals and in particular attacking talent that showed in the 3 games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool that they should be winning games all season and are really a top ten side (just).
BSA has again shown that he can get into the heads of underperforming players and use the pressure of a relegation fight and their personal reputations to challenge them to do better. What he has never shown is the ability to take a team that is playing OK and getting them to win stuff at anything approaching a decent level as his record shows.

Good article. I still think the FA are a bunch of hypocritical arseholes for sacking him.

When you think of what previous England managers got away with,it was pretty pathetic.
