Phil Parkinson reckons loan football could be the next step for promising striker Connor Hall.

The former Sheffield United youngster caught the eye in Wanderers’ first two pre-season games following his summer arrival from Bramall Lane.

Slough-born Hall was sent out on a series of loans during his time with the Blades and has already got seven Conference games under his belt from a spell playing at Woking last year.

After watching him put in some impressive pre-season performances against Chorley and Arbroath, Parkinson is now assessing what Hall’s next step will be - and the Wanderers boss has not ruled out sending him back out in the coming months for more experience.

“We’ve been very happy with him and the work he has put in,” Parkinson told The Bolton News. “He is honest, he’s committed, he wants to run in behind defenders and get on the end of things.

“Connor is still a young lad and we had a little look at him last year.

“He has played at Conference level - again, at a very young age - and we just feel strikers are hard to get, so he’s a perfect player for David Lee to work with at Under-23 level.

“We also know there will always be a market for him on loan at Conference level if we feel he needs more senior football.”

Meanwhile, former Wanderers midfielder Liam Trotter has not joined Scunthorpe United on their pre-season tour.

The 28-year-old played a couple of pre-season friendlies for the Irons, who have now gone to Austria for a training camp.

Trotter is reported to interest ex-Bury manager David Flitcroft, who has just taken charge at Swindon Town.

Ex-Wanderers academy midfielder Tom Walker has also ended a trial at Port Vale.

I think this sums up Parky's attitude to youth development. Connor Hall impresses in the preseason so obviously Parky's first thought is to send him out on loan rather than allow him to fight for a place in the squad he presumably is intended to become an integral part of. Even though he performed better than the senior players. Not a great believer in "if you're good enough you're old enough" as far as I can tell.
