WE asked you how Wanderers will fare this season in the Championship – and a whopping 93 per cent of readers believe Phil Parkinson’s side will stay up.
More than 2,500 readers voted in our annual summer online survey, which tackled a range of topics on and off the pitch at the Macron Stadium.
And the stand-out finding was that just seven per cent of those who voted believe the Whites will be in the bottom three next May.
Fans are pragmatic, and just four per cent of them believe Wanderers will achieve a top-six finish, a further eight per cent predicting top 10.
The vast majority – more than 60 per cent, in fact – are forecasting their side will either finishing comfortably outside the relegation zone, or have a brush with the bottom three, but remain safe.
Survival is certainly the primary target for Parkinson, and 91 per cent of fans believe it is an acceptable aim for the club this time around.
News of Adam Armstrong’s impending arrival might have cheered a few of our voters, who overwhelmingly picked out the attack as the main position Wanderers need to strengthen this season.
Sixty-six per cent of readers believed Parkinson needed to sign players to play up front above all others, with central midfield (25 per cent) the only other significant rival.
Of the new arrivals, there was a big split on which player Wanderers fans were most looking forward to seeing in action.
The survey was launched before the arrival of Sammy Ameobi – but it was winger Will Buckley, with 35 per cent, who came out on top of our survey.
Jem Karacan (25 per cent), Adam Le Fondre (17 per cent) and Fil Morais (15 per cent) were the other leading contenders in the category.
On the subject of Ameobi – just 39 per cent of you thought the former Newcastle United man was likely to re-sign with the Whites this summer.
One player who is not going to be wearing Bolton colours next season is former captain Jay Spearing.
The former Liverpool man is still a free agent, with Parkinson and his former team-mates still keeping slim hopes alive of a return.
But fans have spoken, and many think Wanderers will miss the midfielder this season if he doesn’t return.
We asked for them to score from one to 10 – one being the lowest amount Spearing would be missed, and 10 being the highest.
And though the results were close, 46 per cent of readers cast their vote above the median mark of five, as opposed to 34 per cent who voted below.
After a 12-month hiatus, Wanderers are back in the Championship and looking forward to revisiting some old haunts. We asked fans which ground they were most excited to visit and Aston Villa’s iconic Villa Park came out on top with a quarter of the vote.
Preston’s Deepdale also scored highly, perhaps because it is the only local derby the Whites will face this season, while the prospect of a first-ever game at Burton Albion has also whet the appetite of fans looking to travel to the Pirelli Stadium.
Wanderers are currently in the midst of their pre-season campaign, and though The Bolton News will be there to cover every game, fans are giving the whole thing a miss.
A whopping 48 per cent of Bolton supporters said they will not be attending a single friendly, with a further 27 per cent watching just one.
Despite giving the game a wide berth, 53 per cent of fans still take notice of results and performances in pre-season as an indicator of what might happen in the Championship.
A massive 82 per cent of voters believe Wanderers’ season ticket is value for money – reflected in the positive sales this season.
But one of the biggest splits between fans in our survey occurred when we asked how long they thought it would be before the club returned to the Premier League.
Eighty per cent of supporters believe it will take more than four years, with 30 per cent predicting it will take eight years or more before Bolton get back into the big time.
