JAY Spearing has seemingly ruled out a return to Bolton Wanderers by bidding farewell to the club on his Instagram account.
The midfielder saw his contract expire at the Macron Stadium this summer but manager Phil Parkinson has consistently refused to rule out bringing him back to the club.
Spearing made 173 appearances for Wanderers over five years, having initially joined from Liverpool on loan.
Dougie Freedman made him a permanent signing in August 2013 for £3million and he went on to captain the club on numerous occasions.
“I’d just like to put out to the Bolton fans and players over the last five years a massive thank you,” the player wrote this afternoon.
“It was an honour and a pleasure for myself and family to captain Bolton and be a part of getting promotion back to the Championship.
“Unfortunately, things have been taken out of my hands but I would like to wish the lads the best for the season ahead.”
