Bolton Wanderers' Under-18s suffered an early exit in the Lancashire Cup following defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic on Tuesday afternoon.
The Latics were ahead inside the first minute as Mitchell Culshaw put the ball in behind for Mwiya Malumo to finish.
Just two minutes later, Malumo bagged his second, reacting first in the box to double his and Wigan's tally.
Wanderers did pull a goal back shortly after following good play from Luca Navarro whose shot from just inside the area beat the Latics keeper, but Malumo completed his hat-trick in the 35th minute when finding himself one-on-one with James Aspinall.
Malumo then missed a penalty and a chance for his and Latics’ fourth, but the home side soon had another goal through Joe Lolley who flicked the ball home from Tylor Golden's cross.
Despite this, Bolton continued to press and made it 4-2 in the 61st minute through Navarro once again, but Wigan put the result beyond doubt on 85 minutes when Neil Monaghan turned and finished first time from just outside the 18-yard box.
Bolton: Aspinall, Smith, Preston, Fearnley, Moulden, Boon, Politic, Jones-Griffiths, Moore, Darcy
Wigan: McGaughey, Golden, Hilton, Obi, Roberts, Culshaw, Downey, McGuffie, Baningime, Jolley, Malumo
