I'm sure they'll be fine Martin, try not to worry.

I think they are saying it will pass north of the island so hopefully they will escape the worst of it, and I am sure they are hunkered down somewhere safe.

Hope they will be safe Martin.
As far as I can make out they aren't directly in Irma's path, so should be ok.

There's going to be some effect felt throughout the whole Caribbean so fingers crossed that Santo Domingo doesn't bear the brunt of it. The people will be used to hurricanes and hopefully have shelters in place. Storm surges, tidal and rain effects could still be problematic but let's hope it calms down sooner rather than later.

Lost contact with them at 7pm Manda, but up until then everything was quite calm with lots of rain, thank you for asking Manda, and thanks to all who responded to my post.Chairmanda wrote:Have you an update, Martin? Been thinking of your family.

Id heard that comms systems were patchy and many people unable to contact loved ones...here's hoping you speak soon and all is well.

Hi Martin, my mate and his partner went to the Dominican Republic last week, and I've been getting fairly regular updates. He was evacuated to Santo Domingo, and is now on his way back to where he was staying, so, hopefully, things went relatively safely over there. Hope your family have come through it safe and sound.
(So much for his last minute, money saving, holiday, although he'll have experienced something very few people do when they go away).
