David Wheater and Phil Parkinson have both been named as finalists at next month's Northwest Football Awards.
With the awards marking its tenth year of recongising the good, the great and the un-sung of the beautiful game in the region, the finalists in the player categories have been announced after public voting closed.
And after Wanderers secured an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship last season as Sky Bet League One runners-up, both Wheater and Parkinson have been recognised for their efforts.
Wheater, who was named both Wanderers’ 2016/17 Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year, is up for the Northwest League One Player of the Year award having scored nine times and been part of the meanest defence in the English Football League - conceding just 36 goals from 46 games.
He faces competition from Fleetwood Town's Cian Bolger, Oldham Athletic's Peter Clark and Rochdale's Callum Camps.
Meanwhile, after guiding the Whites to promotion in his first year at Macron Stadium, Parkinson is up against Manchester United's Jose Mourinho and Blackpool's Gary Bowyer having been shortlisted for Manager of the Year.
Elsewhere, the Bolton Wanderers Community Trust have been named as a finalist for the Community Initiative of the Year award for their 'Positive Chances' programme.
They go up against Everton in the Community (Imagine your Goals), Manchester City/City in the Community (City Health) and Wigan Athletic Community Trust (12th Man Health Champions).
Laura Wolfe, managing director of Wolfesport and the Northwest Football Awards said: “It’s been another very strong year in the North West footballing world, from non-league right the way through to some of the biggest and most famous clubs on the planet.
“We are really proud of the clubs, people and organisations in our region that are truly leading the way and setting an example for the rest of the UK, across both the men’s and women’s game.
“The Northwest Football Awards turns 10 this year and has grown in popularity and influence year-on-year, due to its inclusive approach to the game in the region – and we are delighted to celebrate this milestone year for the awards, too.”
All awards will be announced and presented at the Northwest Football Awards at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford on Monday, 13th November, hosted by the BBC’s Dan Walker.
