Wanderers are developing a “thicker skin” after wading through their early-season problems, claims Phil Parkinson.

Despite plenty of negative numbers to select from over the first 11 games, the Whites roared back to form with a win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.

Parkinson believes his team is learning to cope with the different pressures of Championship football, and the extra media attention is has brought.

“I think the modern day player is used to it now,” he told The Bolton News. “Some it might affect more than others but to me it’s simple: play well, train well and let your football do the talking.

“They are getting a thicker skin. If you give it your all, the stuff out there will be positive.”

QPR’s official website even threw a spanner into the works yesterday, with a bizarre article which listed three key Bolton players – David Wheater, Josh Vela and Gary Madine - and a list of their perceived ‘strengths and weaknesses’.

“When one on one with the keeper he often lacks composure,” reads the story, describing Whites striker Madine.

“He sometimes struggles against quicker, fleet-footed opponents,” is part of the entry on defender, Wheater.

Parkinson was unimpressed but said it was an example of the kind of thing his players were learning to ignore.

“I’ve never seen that kind of thing before,” he said. “I won’t make a big thing of it. I don’t think we need any more motivation.”
