The BWFCST board wish to advise that our chairman, Daniel Izza, has today resigned from the board with immediate effect. On behalf of the trust members, the board would like to place on record our thanks for all Daniel's time and effort spent in establishing the trust.

We intend to carry on his good work and the new board will be meeting in the very near future to explore ways to develop and continue engaging with our members.

Once again, our thanks go to Daniel and we would ask members to be patient whilst we look forward to developing the next phase of the BWFCST.

Anything to do with his baiting of KA and the Trust wanting to have better relations with the club?

I am a member but i'm past caring about whatever the next phase may be.

BWFCST been a disgrace from start to finish. Hopefully Izza's departure will prompt them to get their act together and avoid being as irrelevant as they have been since their appearance.

I'm fully behind us having a worthwhile supporters trust but the way this lot have conducted themselves has been nothing short of embarrassing. They've presented themselves as a bunch of small-time businessmen incapable of delivering anything more than their bloated egos.

One of them needs to get a grip, put some actual time and effort into halting their already tarnished reputation and repairing the damage they've done so far. No business can realistically expect to survive being run the way this one has.

Laughable!

I'm wondering if the ST is on the edge of folding?

Izza's announcement seems particularly badly timed in view of the fact that they have just held their Board elections with once again not enough interest shown to have sufficient candidates stand (only 3) to fill the vacancies of the board (four), and that an AGM meeting must be imminent (they are already six months overdue already!).

I would have thought Izza would have at least stayed on the Board (even if not as Chairman of it) until the AGM is out of the way, then resigned quietly in the New Year sometime - only being a few weeks away - being in the ST's best interest at this time.

To go now suggests to me that he feels he's been ousted by the others on the Board, and /or that he doesn't want to attend the imminent AGM as its Chair and presumably face criticism of its performance under his tenure.

Maybe the ST Board are no longer willing or capable of organising an AGM if they themselves have become apathetic too?

It's very noticeable now that there is a widespread indifference to the ST from its own membership let alone across the forums and other social media's - and maybe the Board itself realises that their time is up also?

Just a thought.

The concept of a ST is brilliant but the reality is that to succeed it requires a great deal of time and effort and above all willing partners. I think Anderson has made it clear enough he wants nothing to do with the ST so whilst he remains at the club it's difficult to see what the ST could achieve as there's not much mileage in operating independently from the very club you are trying to support. That, the workload and apparent lack of resources make the reality of the role somewhat less attractive than the concept so I can't blame him for throwing in the towel. Maybe it would have been different if Anderson had seen the ST as an opportunity rather than a threat, but he clearly didn't.

Probably because the ST Board was intent on getting rid of Anderson as club owner from day one!

They reaped what they sowed.

COMMENT: Chairman's surprise resignation leaves Bolton Wanderers Supporters' Trust at a crucial juncture

Formed as a safety net to protect Wanderers through one of the more volatile periods in their history, the Supporters’ Trust now finds itself answering questions about its own stability following the shock resignation of Daniel Izza.

News broke on Wednesday evening that the local solicitor, who has been at the trust’s helm as chairman since June, had stepped down of his own volition.

This was confirmed in a statement issued to members later in the evening, which read: “The BWFCST board wish to advise that our chairman, Daniel Izza, has today resigned from the board with immediate effect. On behalf of the trust members, the board would like to place on record our thanks for all Daniel’s time and effort spent in establishing the trust.

“We intend to carry on his good work and the new board will be meeting in the very near future to explore ways to develop and continue engaging with our members.

“Once again, our thanks go to Daniel and we would ask members to be patient whilst we look forward to developing the next phase of the BWFCST.”

Mr Izza had been a board member since the trust’s early days and stepped up to the chairman’s role after the resignation of Ian Bridge in the summer.

The chief issue faced during his tenure was to defend the trust’s application to have the Macron Stadium listed as an Asset of Community Value. In that aspect he was successful - the council upholding the decision last month - yet the legal wrangling came at a cost to the relationship with the club itself.

Repairing the relationship - or at least seeking to maintain the status quo - will be the first task facing a new-look board.

Questions were already being asked of the trust’s impetus as an organisation a fortnight after it was announced there would be no ballot process for the second set of elections running. Mr Izza’s exit now theoretically leaves two free positions alongside the existing members Terrence Rigby, Maggie Tetlow, Mike Smith, Simon Nightingale and Paul Brown.

Reigniting the connection with a near 2,500-strong membership may be equally as important. Improving transparency and communication could help to regain some of the initial interest there had been in the project in its early days.

The Bolton News has contacted Mr Izza for comment.
