Adam Armstrong feels he has progressed since signing for Wanderers – but still does not know whether he will be extending his stay in January.
The Newcastle United loanee could yet return to the North East next month as Phil Parkinson juggles loans in his squad for the second half of the season.
The 20-year-old has made 21 appearances and scored three goals, playing primarily on the left side of attack but is reluctant to make predictions on whether he will remain at the Macron.
“I’m enjoying my football at the moment,” he said. “I’ve already seen an improvement in my game but I’m taking it each match as it comes. You can’t think too far ahead in football because it changes in an instant.
“Nobody knows what the future holds or what might happen in January but all I can do is keep kicking on, working hard and giving my all for Bolton.
“Personally I think I’m doing okay – I’m getting the games and I’m just working hard to help the team.
“It was great to get that first league goal under my belt a couple of weeks ago against Norwich too. I had felt that was coming for a while, even with me playing on the left. It’s not what I am used to but it has been working well in recent weeks.”
Armstrong was taken out of the firing line in the weekend win against another of his former clubs, Barnsley, but has been fully backed by Parkinson during his stay thus far.
The youngster sees similarities in his demeanour with Toon boss Rafa Benitez, who will also have a say on his next move.
“Rafa is a brilliant manager who has worked with some of the best players in the world,” he said in the club’s matchday programme. “He’s just got a presence when he is stood in front of you, you can’t help but be taken in by.
“He’s a tactical genius and I see a lot of him in the gaffer here. There really isn’t too much of a difference in terms of their management styles and, having worked under him for a few months now, I’m loving it. He’s been really good for me – I knew from the first day we met he’d be brilliant to work with and he’s really taken me under his wing.
“He loves to give younger players a chance and he’s proven that with players like myself and Jedi (Antonee Robinson). He’s a player I’ve known for a few years and I feel like we have got a really good relationship down the left.”
