Phil Parkinson can look forward to a far more straightforward transfer window this time around, as he looks to reinvigorate his side’s survival bid.
After three windows completed with Wanderers’ activity under constant scrutiny from the EFL the club can now trade without embargo.
And Parkinson, who will look to move out of the relegation zone with victory at home to Cardiff City this afternoon, has been told by Ken Anderson any departures from the Macron next month will be his decision.
“The chairman’s come out publicly and said everyone who we want to stay is going to stay so that’s key,” said the manager.
“We can’t afford to weaken the squad, that’s an absolute certainty, we need to do considerably better in the second half of the season than we have in the first.
“I’ve had further chats with the chairman this week, we’ll continue to look at things, consider our options but obviously nothing can be finalised until we get into the month of January but we’re looking at all situations.”
Parkinson has pointed to the talented players on the fringes of the first team, who will be given a chance to show their value to the squad going into the second half of the season, and pointed to the example of Will Buckley.
The wide man made a stuttering start to his Wanderers career but has grasped his chance and is enjoying being an integral cog in the Whites wheel.
“This is a key period of the season, as I’ve been saying for weeks the squad will be utilised over the Christmas period,” added Parkinson.
“I think every manager will be saying the same because it would be very unusual for the team not to change.
“We’ll need to freshen it up and players who may not have even been on the bench will get an opportunity to come in and play.
“We’re confident that all the players have got the ability to stake a claim, like Will Buckley has done.
“He had a bit of a disjointed start to the season, he was on the bench for a while but he came in and he’s got important goals for us – albeit the Wolves one wasn’t that important – that’s the opportunity for other players in the squad to do what Will’s done.”
