Hi everyone

I’m new to this forum, so hello!!

We are considering buying a house on a street right next to hall ith wood estate, kind of between there and Bradshaw but actually right next to the estate itself, although doesn't feel like it. We are moving from Bury so don't know the area very well. A good friend of ours, who know Bolton, has warned us off saying it's quite a bad place to live and is worried about us. She had experience of the area in the late 90s but hasn't been back since.

The street we're interested in is really nice, we've knocked on a few doors and the neighbours seem great. They all give glowing reports of the street and have lived there many years. I've checked the crime reports for the street and there were no reports in 2017.

Is my friend's info outdated now? I don't know anyone else to ask in the Bolton area, hence why I've joined this forum!

We have a young child with one on the way so we want to be cautious but we love the house and don't want to back out of a sale based upon one person's (possibly no longer valid) opinion.

It isn't a 'forever' house, possibly 5-8 years so we aren't concerned about our children being teenagers in the area.

Interested in all opinions, please be really honest!

Thank you in advance!
Gemma

Hello Meg, nice to see a new poster on here  Very Happy

Did you have a question or was it just a general hello? I don't know a lot about Hall ith wood, i know it has a bad reputation but that's about it.

I didn't think it was that bad round there now?

is it Scott? Not very original if it is  Very Happy

Has Scott finally admitted he's been living in the wrong body and is now transitioning?

Have you forgotten Emma Jansen already?

A "classic" Scott character.

Hi there! I wrote a huge piece to send but it was missing for some reason! So I've edited and re-written, a bit shorter I'm sure you'll be glad to hear Smile

It's a bit cheeky to sign up to a football forum just so you can find out about a local area.

Tell us who your favourite player is, or what you make of the Macron bogs, anything really, just make some effort.

Hi and welcome to the forum Gemma! Smile

I live relatively close to Hall ith wood and my Mrs usually takes my kid to the park there facing the police station (now recently closed) when she goes out for a mooch.

I usually cut through hall ith wood sometimes down the bottom and cut through where the stream is to Sharples.

The park is great for kids and has a modern playground which isn't that old.

The estate did have quite a bad reputation a good few years back but I haven't heard anything negative since to be honest.

An idea to perhaps put your mind at rest would be to have a drive around at different times of the day to see for yourself. Smile

It did have a bad reputation way back but i haven't lived in Bolton for 10 years now so it may have changed. If you like it go for it i say.
By the way ignore the resident forum witch Nat and you'll be ok.

If you knock on someone's door from the street they're hardly likely to say "it's a fucking shithole" are they.

I judge an estate by how many front gardens have mattresses in them.

Sorry, I didn't realise it was football only. I thought it was general chit chat too. I saw another post where someone asked which was the worst council estate in the area and got loads of replies so thought it was the right place to post.

Hi there, thank you for your reply, I did drive round a couple of times and yes some houses did look a bit rough but it didn't look as bad as I expected. I'll try driving round at other times too.

Don't drive too slowly. Nat will think you're cruising for business.

The fact that you have to ask about an area says it all really. And if it's not a 'home for life' then people are going to be thinking the same thing when you try and sell.

Move to Preston.

Not everybody is interested in alfresco sex, especially at this time of year.
