Head v Header

I noticed football commentators and pundits have started to use "header" as a verb e.g. "he headered it".

I was brought up to head the ball. 
What are these wankers doing to our language? 
"He shinnered it"?
"He elbowered him in the nose"
How long will it be before we hear about a player chestering the ball?
