PHIL Parkinson had no complaints over Mark Little’s sending off at QPR – but was still left seeing red a “weak” officiating display in Wanderers’ 2-0 defeat.
The Bolton boss admitted referee Scott Duncan was within his rights to punish full-back Little for his second-half touchline challenge on Massimo Luongo.
Parkinson was not impressed, however, at the number of decisions which went the way of Ian Holloway’s side on the day.
“It was the turning point of the game,” he said of Little’s red card. “Mark left the ground and gave the referee a decision to make away from home, and when you have the weak officials we have today there was no doubt it was going to be a red.
“I can see why he gave that one but I thought the performance of all four officials was very, very poor.
“Loftus Road is a tight ground and the crowd are on top off you. Ian Holloway was jumping up and down, appealing for everything and having a go at the ref at half time.
“We needed strong officials and we didn’t have them.”
Goals from Joel Lynch and Matt Smith settled the game for QPR once Wanderers had gone down to 10 men.
Home keeper Alex Smithies made fine saves to deny Derik Osede and David Wheater in either half but, equally, Ben Alnwick pulled out the stops to keep the Hoops at bay in the first half.
The result leaves Wanderers in 20th, two points clear of the bottom three, but with Barnsley and Hull City holding games in hand.
“We have always been in it,” said Parkinson. “If you thought we weren’t then you are looking at a different league table to me.
“We have to patch ourselves up. Vela is going to be out, Little is obviously out, and we have got one or two other bumps and bruises but we have to get a side out there which is ready to go again Tuesday.
“The application of the lads was great, we had some good chances, two from set pieces for Derik (Osede and Wheats (David Wheater) in that second half and I thought we had done well in the second period, quietened the crowd down.
“After the sending off it was always going to be difficult.
“We’re disappointed not to take anything but I can’t fault the lads application and attitude. At Cardiff we were disappointed because we didn’t compete as well as we have done all season. Today we stood strong as a team.”
