WANDERERS new boy Jan Kirchhoff hopes the new career path he is taking will be a boost for everyone involved.
The ex-Bayern Munich man signed a performance-related contract at the Macron on Thursday and says he feels the deal will be mutually beneficial.
And manager Phil Parkinson was delighted to get his man, having moved quickly to snap up the 27-year-old midfielder, who was released by Sunderland in the summer following an injury-hit season.
“He’s looking to get his career back on track and maybe he can suit both parties,” said the Whites boss, after securing Kirchhoff’s services until the end of the season. “He’ll be an excellent addition to the squad as we head towards the final months of the campaign.”
While Wanderers are sure to benefit from the Kirchhoff capture, providing he can complement his ability with increased match-sharpness, the player himself is keen to repay the faith Parkinson and the board have shown in him.
“Me and the manager have spoken with each other over the last couple of days and I just got a good feel for the team and for him,” he told the club’s official website. “I feel really well about it, I’m looking forward and it’s a good opportunity for me and I hope I will be beneficial for the club also.
“So it’s good for both sides, I hope I can give something back to the club for giving me this opportunity to play again. I’ve been here since Monday and did a bit of training so I could prove my fitness. I watched the game against Sunderland and played a test game so now we’re all set.
“I’m looking forward to being successful with my team-mates, staying in this league and winning as many games as we can.”
Parkinson has suggested fans may not see the best of the German just yet although a defensive midfield spot has opened up in the team facing Norwich City today, thanks to Karl Henry starting a two-match suspension.
“I saw them at Wolves and they’re a good side, they’ve got some good footballers,” he said. “James Maddison is the key player for them in that number 10 role but, as I saw on Wednesday, they’re capable of matching the top teams in the division so we’ve got to have the mentality right on our travels.
“The question is can we go down there and build on Tuesday night, make that gap a bigger one and close in on the ones above us.
“They’ve had their game a day later so we hope that can weigh in our favour.”
