Marcus Alonso

Now one of the best defenders in the premier league.

Treated appallingly by us.

Why was he treated appallingly by us? We stood by him when he killed someone in a car accident and we let him go without a big fuss.

No new contract offered when he was at a low ebb in his life after an accident.

I thought there were some contract talks but he didn't want to renew?

He was a load of crap for us. I can't remember a slower left back in all the time I've watched Bolton, and I've seen Andy Taylor and Paul Robinson.

He was a whippet. Full of skill. Misused as well.

Nat's right.....Alonso was ponderous for us and easily turned by nimble opponents. He's won votes by managing to score goals in Chelsea's set-up, but he's still got the turning circle of the QE 2 when players run at him

Alonso is a very decent attacking player but was seldom given the opportunity to step forward in what was a fairly rigid system - until he went to Sunderland where he was given free reign and flourished. Took him time to settle into the English game and work for a manager who appreciates how he is best employed, but now he is a valuable asset and much better than anything we've got ATM.
